Ruco Pichincha

The hike up to the summit of Corazon Volcano is a beautiful experience in order to reach high altitude, surrounded by amazing views of the Avenue of Volcanoes. This 15,680 ft / 4,780 m inactive volcano is part of the Illinizas Ecological Reserve located at the western Andes mountain range.

With 15.450 ft / 4.712 m of height, its name means “old” which refers to it being the first crater of the Pichincha volcano. We will ascend in the teleferico (cable car) to 13.120 ft / 4.000 m to begin hiking through the moor and reach the sand slopes below the summit. At this point starts an easy rock scrambling section to finally get the top of this rocky giant!
