ITINERARY
DAY 1: WELCOME TO ECUADOR!
We will pick you up from airport and transfer to the hotel in Quito. This day, our guide will give you all the details of the trip, help you prepare everything and buy any other supplies that you may still need.
Day 2: Bike The Highlands Of San Cristobal Island
Flight to Galapagos early in the morning. Then our first excursion starts biking to the top of the San Cristobal island at 2030 ft / 615 m to El Junco. The only permanent fresh water lake of the Archipelago is a great place to learn about one of the treasures of Galapagos: fresh water! The frigate birds from the coast take baths on this lake to clean the salt on their feathers while you hike around enjoying the endemic Miconia shrub that gives the name to this area of vegetation.
We continue biking down surrounded by volcanic landscapes and unique trees and ferns. Following our hidden dirt trail for around an hour we will end up discovering the giant tortoises that gave name to the islands. Twenty more minutes of biking and we will be at the ocean, relaxing and swimming at the white sandy beach of Puerto Chino. (B/BL/D)
Day 3: Snorkeling Kicker Rock And The Northern Coast Of San Cristobal
After breakfast, get on board a nice speed boat to head to Kicker Rock, the highlight of San Cristobal and one of the most spectacular places in Galapagos for snorkeling. This natural aquarium will amaze you with its geological beauty and a great variety of fishes, sea stars, rays, sea turtles, reef sharks and other marine creatures. Learn from your local guide all the different species that you identify and enjoy a geology class about the different ages of the islands.
After this amazing snorkel, disembark at one of the calm and pristine beaches of the northern coast to have lunch and relax, walk, swim or snorkel in the turquoise water. (Places of visit change according to National Park regulations and schedules of the speed boat each day) (B, BL, D)
Day 4: Biking And Kayaking Isabela Wetlands
Early in the morning we transfer to Isabela by speed boat/aircraft (depending on the season) and right after arrival we start our 7 mi / 11 km biking to explore the wetlands with its natural beauty and the first human settlements on the small community of Puerto Villamil.
Along the sandy trail we can stop at fresh water ponds or hidden beaches with abundant life between the mangroves like marine iguanas, coastal birds and sometimes giant tortoises roaming free. Climb “Orchilla hill” and visit the “Wall of Tears” to understand the human history of this unique place. After lunch get ready for a kayaking adventure in Tintoreras islet and its surroundings. Beautiful and clear water welcomes you while enjoying the playful sea lions, rays, blue footed boobies and one of the smallest penguins of the world. (B/BL/D)
Day 5: Hiking And Biking Volcan Sierra Negra
This morning we drive up to the highlands and start a 3 hour hike to reach one of the most spectacular calderas of the world: Sierra Negra Volcano. One of the five shield volcanoes that form the biggest island of the Archipelago. If you feel energetic enough keep going to Volcan Chico, a parasite volcanic cone area that gives a great chance for a geology field lesson and a great birdwatching opportunity to see the Galapagos hawk or Vermillion flycatcher while you step on one of the youngest volcanoes on earth!
Then we will take our bikes to go down through Sucre Caverns, lava tunnel and Mango viewpoint. Finally we will have a unique experience with the local people visiting a highland farm and get surprised with all the exotic fruits, vegetables and the famous Galapagos coffee that grows in the island while you learn from them how was the living of the first settlers of this paradise. (B/BL/D)
DAY 6: TRIP BACK TO QUITO
